Railway Research Week 2025: WCRR & IHHA in Colorado Springs

We were represented by a strong team at Railway Research Week 2025 in Colorado Springs (USA) – the joint event of the 14th World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR 2025) and the 13th International Heavy Haul Association Conference (IHHA 2025).

Pre-excursions: Union Pacific and MxV Rail
Even before the conference began, we took the opportunity to make two very valuable visits in the USA:
At Union Pacific Railroad in Denver, we gained an insight into the maintenance of track construction machines. We were particularly impressed by how consistently machines are rebuilt “from the ground up” there – a practical example of reuse and sustainable engineering.
The following day, we visited MxV Rail and were able to familiarize ourselves with the laboratory infrastructure, the test facilities, and the FAST test track. The exchange on testing and measurement methods provided important impetus for our own research and development work.

Our contributions to the conference:
Eight papers from our institute were accepted for the conference program. We presented our research in lectures and were available for in-depth technical discussions at our own booth. Our colleagues from RID were also there, bringing the total number of contributions from the Research Cluster Railway Systems (RCRS) to 13.

Conclusion:
Railway Research Week 2025 was a great success for us, both technically and strategically. We held intensive technical discussions, made new contacts, and developed concrete approaches for future cooperation. We would like to thank all our hosts and organizers and look forward to incorporating the ideas we gained into ongoing and new projects.

And of course, we also visited Pikes Peak… 🙂
